Welcome to the European Botanical Forum
The European Botanical Forum (EBF) was set up in 2004 by European industry scientists as a discussion platform for scientific and regulatory issues related to the use of botanicals in food supplements. Formed by the European Responsible Nutrition Alliance (ERNA) and the European Federation of Associations of Health Product Manufacturers (EHPM), the EBF works in three main areas:-
To determine the optimum methodology for the safety assessment of botanicals used in food supplements
-
To clarify borderline issues between the medicinal and food use of botanicals
- To substantiate health claims for botanicals.
- The regulatory approaches of EU Member States
- The extension of the 2002 EU Food Supplement Directive to botanicals
- The implementation of the 2004 Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive (THMPD).
